How to make vegan overnight oats

Once you see how simple overnight oats are to make you will want to make them on the regular! You can prepare one in under 5 minutes, or prep a whole bunch to eat throughout the week!

The Base: To make overnight oats start with a base of rolled oats and plant milk. You want to add a little more plant milk than there are oats so the liquid gets absorbed. The ratio of 2/3 cup of oats to 1 cup plant milk usually works great! Add the mix to whatever jar or container you want to eat out of.

Other necessities: After the base I always add in my favorite type of nut butter, maple syrup for sweetness and one of either chia, hemp, or flax for omega 3’s! Once you’ve added in your necessities mix well then choose your add-ons!

Add-ons: For this vegan overnight oats recipe I also added in some cinnamon for extra flavor and topped with some frozen blueberries and fresh banana. You can get totally creative with this and add on any fresh fruit or flavors you’d like! The sky is the limit!

I make overnight oats for pretty much anytime to need to take a breakfast on the go. The best thing about them is that you can experiment with so many different flavors! Here are some other great combos!

Blueberry Lemon Overnight Oats: Add lemon juice, lemon zest and blueberries to your oats.

Apple Pie Overnight Oats: Chop up an apple and throw it in along with some peanut butter, cinnamon, nutmeg and maple syrup. It will literally taste like you are eating apple pie for breakfast!

Chocolate Overnight Oats: Mix in some cacao powder or some chocolate protein powder for a chocolatey twist! Top with some raspberries, strawberries and coconut!

Substitutions & Additions

  • I love making my overnight oats with chia, but you can also swap for hemp seeds or ground flax for an alternative source of omegas!
  • Make your overnight oats high protein by mixing in some vegan protein powder! You will need to add in a little more plant milk so the oats are not too thick!
  • Use any nut butter you would like or use powdered peanut butter for a higher protein and lower fat option!

I love to make my vegan overnight oats in a jar so I can take it with me on the go. It also makes me feel super cute eating out of a jar, so that’s a plus! You can also make your oats in a Tupperware or container! Store in the fridge for up to 4 days for the easiest vegan breakfast meal prep!
