How to Make Crispy Tofu Burger
Prepare Tofu Burger
First, make your tofu burger. Slice your tofu into your desired burger shape, then set aside. Take a bowl to prepare the flour mixture by mixing your whole wheat flour and spices. In another bowl, add your plant milk, and in a third bowl, add your breadcrumbs. Dunk your tofu into the plant milk, then into the flour mix, back into the plant milk, and finally into the breadcrumbs.
Air fry at 400f for 12-15 minutes or bake at 425 for 25-30 minutes.
Make Coleslaw
While your tofu cooks, prep your coleslaw. Add avocado, lemon, maple syrup and salt and pepper to a bowl with a splash of water and mash well to combine. Add in your coleslaw mix and mix until well coated.
Assemble Tofu Burgers
Prep your burger with your toppings of choice; I used sriracha mayo, pickles, lettuce, and red onion, and top it off with your coleslaw mix.
Recipe Tips for Crispy Tofu Burger
Short on time? Use pre-cut coleslaw mix and store-bought Sriracha Mayo to speed up the process without compromising on flavor.
Tofu Hack: Poke holes in the tofu before marinating to allow better flavor absorption from the spices.
Let the Flavors Meld: For more flavorful tofu patties, marinate the tofu for at least 1 hour, or ideally overnight (24 hours).
Baking Tips: Although I prefer the air fryer as it provides the crispiest patties, you can also bake! I recommend baking them on a wire rack to avoid having to flip the patties so that both sides can get nice and crispy!
