If you have ever tried the sweet potato chips from Starbucks, you will know how delicious crunchy sweet potato chips are! The only problem is that they are usually fried in oil and tend to also be crazy expensive! Why not save the five bucks and make your own healthy oven baked sweet potato chips at home?! This chips are crunchy, salty and only require 4 ingredients!

How to make sweet potato chips

Slicing: The first and most crucial step towards your crispy chips is slicing your sweet potatoes. If possible use a mandolin to achieve thin uniform slices. If you do not have a mandolin you can use a knife or a peeler, but make sure to cut them as evenly as possible as this will make the baking process easier.

Seasoning: Next, add your sliced up sweet potatoes into a large bowl and season with olive oil, salt and pepper. Mix well with your hands to ensure all the slices are well coated.

Baking: Once the potatoes are seasoned you can add them to a baking sheet. Spread out the slices so they are not overlapping each other, as this will make for soggy chips! Bake the chips for about 30 minutes flipping halfway through to ensure both sides get super crispy! Make sure to watch them for the last 5-10 minutes as they can burn very quickly!

These crispy sweet potato chips are much healthier than any store bought chips you can find! Usually potato chips are deep fried and loaded with saturated fat and salt! Making your own chips at home you have total control over the amount of oil and can limit the amount of salt, making them a much healthier option!

For this sweet potato chips recipe we use a simple salt and black pepper seasoning but you can add some other delicious flavors:

Make it spicy: Make these ships spicy by adding some lime juice, chili powder and cayenne!

Make it sweet: Add some cinnamon to your sweet potatoes! If you have not tried cinnamon with your sweet potatoes you are missing out! It is a surprisingly delicious combo!

Go Cajun: Make a Cajun spice mix with garlic powder, smoked paprika, oregano, thyme and cayenne!

Mediterranean: Make a Medi style chip using lemon juice & rosemary!

Can’t Decide? If you can’t decide on a seasoning try using an everything but the bagel seasoning to get a little bit of everything!

Crispy Oven Baked Sweet Potato Chips

These crispy sweet potato chips are just as good as store bought! They require only 4 ingredients and can be eaten as a healthy snack all week long. Use these for your Buddha bowls, to add to sandwiches, or dip into a vegan aioli!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 Medium Sweet Potatoes
  • 3 tbsp Olive Oil
  • Salt & Pepper

Instructions
 

  • First slice up your sweet potatoes. This step is crucial to ensure all the chips come out evenly crunchy. If possible use a mandolin to slice them so they come out the exact same width. If you do not have a mandolin you can use a peeler or slice with a knife as thin as possible.
  • I used a knife to slice my potatoes and the thicker ones slices did not come out as crunchy. Make sure to slice as thin as possible and keep in mind when cooking that if they are different thicknesses they will finish at different times, so be sure to watch them closely near the end and remove the ones that are done.
  • After slicing your potatoes add them into a large bowl and season with olive oil, salt and pepper. Toss with your hands to ensure all the potatoes are well coated.
  • Spread onto a baking tray so that the slices are not overlapping. This will ensure they come out super crunchy.
  • Bake at 400f for about 30 minutes flipping halfway through. Make sure to watch them closely at the end so they don't burn and remove the thinner chips that cook faster than the rest.
