Air Fryer Plantain Chips

If you loved those crunchy, sweet plantain chips as a kid you are going to love these cinnamon sugar plantain chips! They are easy to make and only require 4 ingredients! They are slightly crisped, slightly crunchy and are low in fat! These air fryer chips are perfectly seasoned and can be made into so many different flavors!

What ingredients do I need for my air fryer plantain chips?

  • Plantain
  • Sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Olive Oil
  • Himalayan Salt

How to make air fryer plantain chips

Slice your plantains as thinly as possible! You can use a mandolin if you have one or use a knife.

Season your plantains in a large bowl with a drizzle of olive oil, cinnamon and sugar. You can also add a dash of salt to bring out the sweetness!

Toss with your hands making sure to separate all of the slices so they are all well coated.

Air Fry you plantain chips in a single layer for about 12 minutes, flipping halfway through. My air fryer doubles as a dehydrator and comes with built in racks. You may use these racks and fry your plantains in layers if you have this option!

Plantain ripeness. Make sure your plantains are ripe enough to be peeled. Mine was yellow with brown spots all over it.

Switch up the spices! You can use anything you’d like! Try making them curried with some curry powder, garlic powder, onion powder and salt or make a chili lime flavor with some chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder and lime juice! The possibilities are endless!

Watch the chips carefully in the last few minutes so they do not burn. I take out the thinner chips a little earlier as they cook faster.

Eat them right away. Your plantain chips taste best right out of the air fryer or eaten shortly after. I left mine overnight and they became soft and chewy.

Use an oven for your plantain chips. Bake for 15-20 minutes at 350f flipping halfway through.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 medium Plantains
  • tbsp Olive Oil
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • Dash of Salt

Instructions
 

  • Make sure to choose plantains ripe enough you can peel off the skin.
  • Peel your plantains then slice them as thinly as possible using a mandolin or a knife.
  • Transfer to a bowl and add your seasonings. Use your hand to coat all of the pieces completely, making sure to peel apart any pieces that are stuck together.
  • Air Fry at 350 degrees for 12 minutes flipping halfway through.
  • Watch them carefully at the end and take out any of the thinner pieces, they will cook faster than the thicker pieces.
