Why You’ll Love these Chickpea Fries:
Healthy Twist on Classic Fries: Chickpea fries offer a healthy twist to traditional potato fries. These fries are a potent source of plant-based protein and fiber from chickpeas, so you can enjoy a guilt-free snack without compromising taste.
Versatile and Customizable: This recipe is a canvas for your culinary creativity. Cut the chickpea dough into traditional fry shapes or use cookie cutter to make different shapes. Experiment with different seasonings and dips for a fun and healthy snack.
Low-calorie: Compared to traditional deep-fried potato fries, chickpea fries are typically baked to golden perfection with minimal oil, reducing fat content and calories. This keeps the fries light and avoids excess fat while achieving a crispy texture that rivals any fried version.
Kid-friendly and Crowd-Pleasing: Whether baking them for your kids or throwing a party at home, these chickpea fries are a hit with everyone.
Great for Dipping: While the recipe suggests a dairy-free COCONUT DILL DIP, you can opt for other plant-based dips. Cashew-based sriracha mayo is also a great choice to serve alongside the chickpea fries (if you don’t have nut allergies).
Gluten free and Soy Free: These healthy chickpea fries are gluten free and soy free and are 100% vegan making them perfect for various dietary needs.
How to Make Chickpea Fries
Prepare & Cook Chickpea Mixture
Mix all ingredients in a pot and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes until it has become super thick!
Chill the Mixture
Flatten your mix onto a lined baking sheet as evenly as possible and pop it in the fridge for 15 minutes to firm up.
Cut the fries
Place your chickpea dough onto a large baking tray. Slice it into fry shapes or any shape you choose, and return to the baking sheet. Make sure to keep spaces between the fries so they can crisp up.
Bake the Chickpea Fries
Bake at 400f for 25-30 min flipping halfway through and serve with your favourite dip!
Prepare Coconut Dill dip
While the fries are baking, prepare your coconut dill dip to serve with chickpea fries. Mix all dip ingredients including coconut yogurt, garlic powder, onion powder, lemon juice, freshly chopped dill, salt & pepper in a small bowl. Or you can use my homemade high protein vegan tzatziki or cashew sriracha mayo!
Serve and Enjoy!
Arrange them on a plate and serve with the dip of your choice.
Recipe Tips & Variations
Substitute coconut dill dip with your favorite dip to take these healthy fries to the next level. While this recipe calls for COCONUT DILL DIP, you can use my homemade high-protein vegan tzatziki, hummus, or cashew sriracha mayo!
Chilling Time: Don’t skip the chilling step in the fridge before baking. Chilling allows the mixture to firm up, making it easier to cut into fries and helps them retain their shape during baking.
Keep Spaces Between Fries: When placing the chickpea fries on the baking sheet, leave enough space between them to prevent sticking and ensure even browning.
Brush with Olive Oil (Optional): If you prefer an extra crispy texture, lightly brush the fries with olive oil or cooking spray before baking. This little step can make a big difference in the overall crunchiness.
Add herbs of your choice to the mix for an added layer of flavor.
